SHELBY GT40 MKII 50TH ANNIVERSARY LE MANS EDITION.

In the early 1960s, Ford Motor Co. was in talks to buy Ferrari and after negotiations broke down, Henry Ford II was determined to show Ferrari that Ford could produce a winning race car.

With the racing and team success of the Shelby Cobra and Daytona Cobra Coupes (powered by Ford engines), Henry Ford II turned to Carroll Shelby. Ford and Shelby combined for a 1-2-3 finish of the 1966 race. Throughout the mid-to-late sixties Ford made history by winning the 24 hour race four years in a row with the 1966 race being the most significant.

In 2016 Shelby American announced 20 special edition GT40's for the 50th anniversary of the legendary 1-2-3 finish at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. This car is an exact recreation of the Le Mans winning car - right hand drive and right hand shift and finished in the Bruce McLaren livery.
